- Addictions are not limited to alcohol and drugs. This common
fallacy blocks many from seeing addictive behavior in their own
lives. Food, work, sex, love, pornography, drama/violence,
relationship, almost any behavior can cross the line between
healthy and compulsive.
Hearing the addictive voice is a sticky, gooey, heavy, all
encompassing experience. Like a suffocating blanket, it completely
prevents us from any other thoughts except engaging in the
addictive behavior. During those moments, hours, days, we
believe that nothing else matters except the next bite, the next
score/hit, the next sexual liaison, getting and staying in a
relationship, no matter what the cost to our personal safety, health,
finances or spiritual well being and no matter what the affect on
our family, closest friends and anyone else we come in contact
with.
